a strong start to the season for the lady jags

This weekend, the Lady Jaguars wrestling team opened their season with a bang, showing their conditioning, skill and mental strength. It was a weekend filled with intense matches, inspiring moments, and a true demonstration of what it means to be Stronger than the Storm.

On Saturday, our JV squad set the tone with outstanding performances across the board:

- 🥇 London Rolen dominated her bracket, earning the top spot.

- 🥈 Juliette Musser and Aleena Siddiquee had their Lady Jag debut and didn't disappoint as they captured second place finishes.

- 🥉 Eliska Miskovska, a foreign exchange student from the Czech Republic, won her first-ever wrestling match during her debut tournament in the United States! Eliska—known as Ellie to us—has embraced this new sport with enthusiasm. She celebrated her third-place finish in the stands, sipping tea with a medal proudly around her neck. Bravo, Ellie, Bravo!

Sunday brought the Varsity girls to the mat, and they were ready to keep the momentum rolling. And the results spoke volumes:

- 🥇 Isabella Silva, Gwendolyn Musser, and Wema Laktari brought home well deserved gold medals.

- 🥈 Anna Oliver wrestled with heart, earning a strong second-place finish.

- 🥉 Violet Fortier, Jennifer Cho, and Aisha Williams fought hard securing third-place finishes.

There were a few key moments that stood out during the Varsity competition:

- Wema Laktari wrestled in one of the weekend’s most intense matches, securing victory in an Ultimate Tie Breaker. She held her state-placer opponent down in the final 30 seconds, clenching her spot in the finals.

- Jennifer Cho showcased composure under pressure, winning her match in Sudden Victory by executing a decisive takedown in the final moments.

👏 Sophia Silva and Kamalini Sankar may not have medaled, but their hard work and determination helped secure the team Gold. Making us the Back to Back Arlington Invite Team Champions.

We also enjoyed supporting our men’s wrestling team, who finished 5th overall despite the 6-match-per-day cap, which kept several athletes from competing in their final matches. Their resilience was impressive, and we’re proud to share the mat with such a hardworking group.

This tournament also marked a special milestone for our program. Coach Dudley shined in his debut as the Lady Jaguars’ assistant coach, providing critical support and helping guide our wrestlers. For the first time in nine years, I had the chance to find a moment of calm at a tournament, knowing that Coach Dudley was there to share the load. It was a wild feeling that I fully welcomed!

Of course, none of this would be possible without our incredible support team:

- Athletic Trainers: Michaela Mundt and Audrey Wilson kept everyone in top shape.

- Film Crew: Lucy Metnitzer, Marina Macedo, Madeline Reece, and Cecelia Bumgarner captured all the action.

- Injured Athletes: Iva Aguirre (fresh out of her knee brace) and Nunu Moore (who was restricted to the stands thanks to surgery being so recent) showed incredible team spirit, cheering on their teammates and helping film.

This weekend was a promising start to the season, and I can’t wait to see how the Lady Jaguars continue to grow and build momentum. The determination, resilience, and hard work this team has displayed show that they are ready for any challenge.

We are truly *Stronger than the Storm*! 🖤💛

Good Night,

Coach Momgini
